In season 2019-2020, OPERA2DAY collaborated with Utrecht City Theatre to present A bite at the opera. Four evenings with four different operas and four different menus. Each evening, one opera takes the spotlight. Between the different parts of the Opera, dishes are served that fit the theme of the story. In doing so, the audience’s experience is also culinary stimulated.

The cooperation with the Utrecht theatre has continued in the 2021/2021 season.

Here, A Bite At The Opera was seduced by the 7 deadly sins. Not a traditional opera performance, but a varied evening in which the singing and the menu together tell a story. Culinary musical theatre that takes place in different places in the Stadsschouwburg.  

An example is the evening with the theme’ Luxuria, or lust. Seduction, lust and passion can be all-consuming. At its core pure selfishness, as with the libertine Marquis de Sade. Less dangerous but equally tearful, lust has a starring role in the film Moulin Rouge! Even in Puccini’s opera Tosca, love and power play a dangerous game in which no one is left unscathed.
