DEFQON 1

As show director, I had the honor of being involved with Q-dance’s Defqon1 festival. Although I have done work for ID&T before, this was a step into the hardstyle festival with the prestigious end shows and the most fanatical visitors. It was my first time working on a hardstyle event and it was a dream come true. From a young age I watched the end shows and it was the highest thing for me. The thought of one day making a show for this event was always present in my mind.

For Defqon1 2022, I was involved in developing the show for the ‘blue’ area. The ‘blue’ area of the festival has always been known for its powerful and energetic atmosphere and my challenge was to enhance this atmosphere even further through an impressive show. From this came a set that would take visitors on an energetic journey through a dynamic lighting design, impressive visuals and moving motion objects. To give the show a fitting ending, I worked with a team of mimers and we created an end show with torches. It gave me the opportunity to create a combination of theater and hardstyle.

We received a great response from the audience and I am very proud of the work we did. The audience was fantastic and there is no other audience like Defqon1. It was an honor to be part of such a prestigious festival and to work for this organization.
