As artistic director, I am interested in creating rituals that can connect us in today’s society, where fewer things give us a grip and the opportunity to reflect. My goal is to connect with the world around us by telling underexposed stories through photography and creating new worlds through theatre. I use contemporary symbolism and theatrical elements to tell universal stories about the impermanence of life and the divinity of human existence and the society in which it takes place. To do so, I use a variety of mediums, including theatre, opera, dance festivals and play text theatre.
I graduated from the Academy of Theater in Amsterdam, where I studied stage direction. During my studies, I was also involved in performances in Belgium and Germany, including the Ruhrtriennale – Festival of the Arts. I also completed internships at four major companies in the Netherlands. Since then, I have gained experience as an opera director at various theatres, including De Nationale Opera, Theater Rotterdam and Schouwburg Utrecht.
I am also involved in developing concepts for productions and festivals at ID&T, Q-Dance, De Nationale Opera and educational institutions such as the Academy of Arts Utrecht, Academy of Theatre Amsterdam and the Royal Academy of Arts The Hague, among others. Here, I mentor students in writing, directing and visual arts.
I am convinced that art can connect and enrich us. As artistic director, I am constantly looking for ways to achieve this. I cordially invite you to visit the shows and festivals I have worked on and enjoy the magic of theatre and art with me. I look forward to meeting you and sharing in these artistic experiences. See you soon!
